Ah, Isla Holbox! Hot, humid, and sweat inducing; beautiful, interesting, and memory making! Here are some final snapshots of my solo adventure there:
For three days before my arrival, the island got super heavy rains. Mere golf cart taxis couldn’t navigate the flooded streets. So they brought out these bad-ass carts I called, “Hummer Carts”! Check out this VIDEO I took on my introduction ride to my guesthouse that first night: Rough Seas Ahead!!
I’ve mentioned the wonderful beachfront guesthouse where I stayed. Not only were my apartment and its grounds terrific, the owners were amazing. We got to know each other during many conversations and beers, and are keeping in touch via WhatsApp. I ‘splurged’ for this accommodation–I paid more for this than maybe any previous place in my travels–but it was definitely worth it!
There aren’t enough pictures to capture all the wonderful bits and pieces of this six-day trip. I was able to add to my list of new destinations for September 14th to celebrate my late husband; I met some really good people with whom I’m already corresponding; I showed a whale shark who’s boss; I learned that only wimps use air conditioning; and I’ve added some unique memories to my collection from my solo journeys.
Adios to Isla Holbox…..and on to planning the next solo adventure. Thanks for going along with me!
